Gray and Adira Test a Blue Heat Shimmer Effect

Mark Rosewater confirmed on November 5 that giving blue a Heat Shimmer-style effect on Gray and Adira, Forever Joined is a new color-pie experiment. He answered “Yes” to a question about the experiment. The card’s printed text makes the effect conditional: after you cast a noncreature spell, its combat trigger copies a creature you control, gives the token haste, then sacrifices it at the next end step.

That resembles Heat Shimmer, but the red sorcery can copy any target creature and exiles its token at the end step. Gray and Adira only copy your own creature, and only after that spell condition is met. Rosewater gave no indication whether Wizards will use the blue-accessible effect beyond Star Trek.
