The 30-Day Shares Tell Different Stories
Across the latest 30 days, Mardu Energy represented 1.7% of 786 decks, down from 2.0% of 604 decks in the preceding 30 days. Izzet Midrange moved from 0% to 1.3%. We give Izzet Midrange the stronger claim to sustained growth: its latest weekly gain follows an increase across the longer window, while Mardu Energy’s does not.
Mardu Energy’s calendar-week progression is more encouraging. It went from 1.1% (2 of 190 decks) in the week of October 12, 2026, to 1.4% (3 of 221) on October 19, then 3.2% (5 of 155) on October 26. The week of November 2 reached 6.3%, from 2 of 32 decks.

Mardu Energy Has Three Recent Top Eights
Before Mav40121’s November 3 finish, Selfeisek reached two playoffs on November 1, 2026: eighth at 4-3 in the 60-player Challenge 32, and third at 5-2 in the 27-player Challenge 16. MTGO’s Challenge 32 standings record a quarterfinal loss to Sneak and Show; the Challenge 16 playoff results show a win over Dimir Hogaak before a semifinal loss to Lands.
The three lists share the same 24-creature package: 4 each of Guide of Souls, Ocelot Pride, Ajani, Nacatl Pariah, Amped Raptor, Orcish Bowmasters and Voice of Victory. All three also register 4 Thoughtseize, 3 Cabal Therapy, 4 Swords to Plowshares and 2 Goblin Bombardment, with 23 lands including 4 Wasteland. The recent results come from a consistent build rather than several substantially different Mardu experiments.

The main-deck difference is one land: Mav40121 used Swamp where Selfeisek used Shadowy Backstreet. Their sideboards diverge considerably. Mav40121 registered 4 Deafening Silence, 2 Magus of the Moon and 2 Wrath of the Skies; Selfeisek’s identical sideboards contained 1 Deafening Silence alongside 2 each of Containment Priest, Mindbreak Trap and Stony Silence. Both pilots registered 4 Leyline of the Void.
The wider Mardu Energy playoff record includes 2-1 against Sneak and Show and 0-2 against Doomsday. Those are small top-eight match records, not matchup win rates. The latest Eldrazi meeting also ended badly: MatthewMurdock beat Mav40121 2-0 in the November 3 quarterfinal before winning the event.
Izzet Midrange Shares Its Cutter With Delver
Cori-Steel Cutter is a plausible part of Izzet Midrange’s growth. It appeared in all 10 Izzet Midrange lists across the latest 30 days, averaging 3.2 copies, and in 7 of 32 Legacy decks during the week of November 2, 2026. But its larger home was Izzet Delver, with 47 appearances averaging 2.9 copies. Its popularity extends well beyond the Midrange label.
The Izzet Midrange core also includes Dragon’s Rage Channeler, Flow State, Stormchaser’s Talent and Boomerang Basics alongside Brainstorm, Ponder, Force of Will and Daze. Its listed playoff history is only 3 matches: 0-1 against Izzet Delver, 1-0 against Lands and 1-0 against Sneak and Show. No opponent appears twice.
The naming overlap matters when following its next results. MTGContent’s player archive calls demmers’s November 1, 2026 deck Izzet Midrange, while MyMTGO’s event standings call it Izzet Cutter and DeckSnipe’s results page calls it Izzet Delver. The finish is the same in each case: 29th at 3-3.
