Mr. Spock, Science Officer doubles every card you draw for 4 mana, making it our strongest Star Trek commander. Scryfall's main-set search lists 49 rare or mythic commander options, while its Commander-set search lists 91, giving players 140 options across the two releases.

Wizards' official decklists identify Commander Spock, Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary, The Borg Queen and Worf, Defiant Commander as the preconstructed deck leaders. Mr. Spock, Science Officer, Dr. Beverly Crusher, Captain Kathryn Janeway and Captain Benjamin Sisko belong to the main set. The announced release date is November 13, 2026.

1. Mr. Spock, Science Officer

This 4-mana commander doubles draws without demanding combat or a particular permanent type. It is our high-power pick because every repeatable draw engine immediately becomes twice as productive.

The One RingThe One Ring, a 4-mana artifact at EDHREC rank 96, draws increasing numbers of cards. Its first activation draws 2 with Mr. Spock, Science Officer in play. The 6-mana Consecrated Sphinx, rank 656, becomes even less reasonable: each opposing draw can give you 4 cards.

Mr. Spock, Science Officer doubles draws without another setup requirement.

2. Commander Spock

Commander SpockLanding Party's leader costs 5 mana in . On entry or attack, Commander Spock reveals your top card and can cast it free if its mana value fits your differently named land count. A revealed land can enter tapped; the revealed card is drawn if it remains on top.

ExplorationBuild around Exploration (EDHREC rank 308), Scapeshift (1,291) and Field of the Dead (496). Exploration accelerates land development; Scapeshift can find a deliberately varied selection. Field of the Dead rewards the same land-name plan with Zombies. We prefer this to a Spacecraft-first build because the commander supplies free spells.

3. Dr. Beverly Crusher

Dr. Beverly CrusherFor 3 mana in , Dr. Beverly Crusher doubles permanent triggers caused by your lifegain and grows whenever you gain life. We take this focused engine over the more expensive combat commanders.

Soul WardenStart with the 1-mana Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant, EDHREC ranks 458 and 782, to gain life as creatures enter. Heliod, Sun-Crowned (1,010) then distributes twice as many counter triggers. Archangel of Thune (1,268) spreads those counters across your entire creature board. Separate small lifegain events do the work here.

4. Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary

Jean-Luc Picard, LuminaryFederation Fleet's 4-mana leader draws when another historic permanent costing at least 3 enters. Your second draw each turn also adds a creature counter and 2 Spacecraft charge counters. Build historic value first, with Spacecraft as beneficiaries.

Jhoira, Weatherlight CaptainThe comparison is Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain, a 4-mana historic-cast draw engine at EDHREC rank 1,061. Play both, alongside The One Ring and Sai, Master Thopterist (802). Sai supplies flying artifact tokens, while qualifying historic permanents keep cards flowing. Cheap artifacts below mana value 3 do not trigger Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary.

5. The Borg Queen

The Borg QueenWe Are the Borg's leader costs 7 mana, gives your artifact creatures +2/+2 and takes a creature from an opponent's library on entry or attack. The price is steep; we favour it for slower casual tables where an established token board makes that anthem matter immediately.

Sai, Master ThopteristSai, Master Thopterist turns artifact spells into flying bodies. The 5-mana Illustrious Wanderglyph, EDHREC rank 2,117, makes a Gnome every upkeep and supplies another +2/+2 bonus once you have the city's blessing. These are better foundations than relying entirely on the creatures opponents happen to surrender.

6. Worf, Defiant Commander

Worf, Defiant CommanderKlingon Fury's 5-mana leader arrives with a hasty 2/1 Klingon. Attack multiple opponents to exile more cards, playable through your next turn. The token can attack immediately, so Worf, Defiant Commander can start paying you back without attacking personally.

Aggravated AssaultAggravated Assault, EDHREC rank 695, buys extra combats and more attack triggers. Wheel of Misfortune (1,235) offers a hand refill, while Urabrask, Heretic Praetor (4,486) supplies another card to play each upkeep. We want a combat-value deck that keeps spending cards, rather than a narrow Klingon-only build.

7. Captain Kathryn Janeway

Captain Kathryn JanewayThis 4-mana commander grants an extra land play and makes each entering creature explore. Creature-heavy lands is the straightforward casual build: lands revealed by explore reach your hand, while nonlands can grow the creature and go to the graveyard.

Field of the DeadExploration adds another land play. Field of the Dead supplies creatures that explore, and Scapeshift can assemble its differently named lands. We rank Captain Kathryn Janeway below the dedicated draw engines because exploring a nonland does not put that card into your hand.

8. Captain Benjamin Sisko

Captain Benjamin SiskoCaptain Benjamin Sisko costs 2 mana but has colour identity. Dilemmas produce Officers at your end step; a 7-mana tap ability then casts spells from your top 5 cards according to your Officer count. This is our choice for a casual modal-spell deck.

Emiel the BlessedEmiel the Blessed, EDHREC rank 2,727, can repeatedly blink Subcommander T'Pol to face its modal entry ability again. Soul Warden gains life from the returning creature and subsequent Officers. The expensive activation keeps Captain Benjamin Sisko below commanders that generate cards immediately.

Jadzia Dax, Living LegacyTwo other main-set legends deserve a look. Jadzia Dax, Living Legacy costs 2 mana in and turns its growing counter count into mana each first main phase. Dathon, His Heart Open costs 3 in , draws from enchantment spells and damages each opponent when you cast a Saga.
